Exposomics: can we understand how environmental pollutants cause disease by modifying our body molecules?

Air pollution and water contamination have been associated with increased risks for disease, but we do not know the mechanisms by which they act. We have set up a large multinational project that takes advantage of current powerful technologies that explore in a systematic way the impact of external exposures on molecules such as DNA, RNA, proteins and metabolites. The outcomes of the study will allow the identification of the effects of pollutants at very low levels of exposure and will thus influence policy-making. Click here for video
