University of Utrecht, Institute of Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS)
Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS), Utrecht University is a leading institute in the field of environmental health risk assessment in Europe. It consists of three divisions, Environmental Epidemiology, Toxicology, and Veterinary Public Health and has about 125 personnel members. The Environmental Epidemiology Division conducts research on environmental exposures and their health effects, including outdoor and indoor pollution and biocontaminants. The IRAS Institute is a partnership between the faculties of Medicine, Science and Veterinary Medicine.
The mission of IRAS is to provide education and research on the human health risks of exposure to potentially harmful agents in the environment, at the workplace and through the food chain. Effects on ecosystems are also considered.
Role in the project
IRAS leads Subproject 3 (WP5, WP6, WP7) and WP9 on the evaluation of enhanced exposure assessment and biomarker of exposure on environmental health risks. IRAS also contributes to air pollution exposure assessment (WP3), water pollution (WP4), perform proteomic analyses (WP7), and contribute to statistical analyses (WP8).
